Scone Cup - Horse Racing - Country New South Wales Australia

Today I went to my first race meeting in my life. I wasnt sure what to expect but the wait was killing me. Scone is a small town about 25km from Muswellbrook and about 4 1/2 hours from Sydney. The trip was great, the towns we passed through were so pretty. I stopped at a piggery on the way through as they looked so cute, that was until I got up close to them and realised they were nothing like the movie Babe.
Scone the town looks so small with quaint little shops and rural street scapes. To me it was the a shock to be waiting to get into the race course with literally thousands of other patrons. Tomy shock it was $20 a head to get in. No sob story here I was given two free passes. It just seems odd that you need to pay money to lose your money on a horse.
The set up was amazing! They had portable TAB betting boothes everywhere and the true believes were there diligentlly placing money on their "sure things" It was the stuff of dreams for them. The bookmakers were doing a roaring trade with the famous Robbie Waterhouse keeping book there. I decided to give it a go with my trusty five dollars in hand and no idea how to pick a horse let alone work a self serve TAB booth. My faith was placed on number 2 on a horse with a forgettable name and a more forgetable run. Well that was $5 wasted so I bet with my head and not over it and stopped at that.
All in all a great day. I didnt really understand the gambling part or the attraction of it, but it wasnt unpleasant if you know what i mean. The horses looked great the jockeys so short and skinny. The only thing I thought let the day down was the food on offer though ive had far worse.
